SUMMARY:Indigo Dance Company Presents HUSK
DESCRIPTION:HUSK – the final chapter in the HOME universe. \nHusk is a 44-minute evening length work premiering August 23rd (Matinee and evening Performances) at Stomping Ground LA in Los Angeles\, CA presented by Indigo Dance Company.  This work is being choreographed by Dani Burd\, Rik Soto\, and Madi Thomas – in collaboration with our Season 2 company artists.\nThe Pre-show will feature 2 different pieces by guest choreographers Aisha Reddick and Ashley Tomaszewski (THREE POINT PROJECT)\nThere will be a brief stage/set changeover.\nHUSK is the culmination of a three-year journey through grief\, memory\, and transformation.  A homesick heart fractures time and transcends reality in this emotional recollection. An emotional recollection\, where loss fractures time and transcends reality. Sunder. Oblivion. Grace.\nThis final chapter asks… What remains when everything falls away? When you’re at the edge of the earth…what’s left. How do we find peace at the end..with the end. How do we begin again.\nAnd then… light. Not because it was earned or things subsided.. but because grace arrives anyway. Forgiveness without reason\, beauty without logic. It’s presence\, humility\, peace.\nSeven incredible dancers will support answering these questions\, bringing their own stories and truths to this collective work of art.

SUMMARY:Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet: Islands in the Sea
DESCRIPTION:The world premiere of Raiford Rogers’ Islands in the Sea\, set to the music of Arvo Pärt and inspired by the William James quote\, “We are like islands in the sea\, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.” The work explores the unseen forces that unite us. \nThe ballet features choreography set to several of Pärt’s most evocative compositions — including Fratres\, Passacaglia\, Pari Intervallo\, Vater Unser\, Spiegel im Spiegel\, and Für Alina. \nGlassworks\, set to Philip Glass’ iconic composition of the same name\, and Restless\, set to music by Zbyněk Matějů\, join with the company’s signature rhythmic elegance to complete the program. \nRecorded specifically for this performance\, the score features pianist Hui Wu\, violinist Stephanie Yu\, and cellist Elizabeth Wright. Large-scale projections by acclaimed visual artist Mike Nava create a rich\, multi-sensory environment in which dance\, music\, and art converge.

SUMMARY:Ode to La Pachuca
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Colibríes Collective \nA young Chicana is sent to her grandmother’s attic to retrieve a pair of shoes tucked away in an old suitcase. Upon opening the suitcase\, she appears seemingly unimpressed by the random contents it guards. As she digs through the suitcase\, she begins to understand the significance of her abuelita’s belongings and discovers her family’s revolutionary history. \nAbout Colibríes Collective: \nColibríes Collective is a home for movement\, memory\, and meaningful storytelling. We are a multifaceted dance company rooted in spirit and the quiet power of the body in motion. \nInspired by the hummingbird—a symbol of resilience\, healing\, joy\, and freedom—we create dances that live between breath and memory. Our work is swift but intentional—hovering just long enough to stir something within you. \nWe craft dances that reflect untold stories and amplify voices too often left unheard. Our work blends grounded technique with a touch of magical realism\, honoring the many identities and lineages within our company. It is this rich diversity that shapes our collective voice. \nEvery movement holds a memory of where we’ve been and opens the door to what’s possible. Each dance is a prayer—an act of remembering and a gentle beginning. \nWe don’t speak for those who came before us. We dance with them—so their stories can be felt\, and their voices remembered.

SUMMARY:1-7-25
DESCRIPTION:1-7-25 is a one act dance performance sharing truths from countless\, unwanted stories that began on January 7\, 2025. Stories of unimaginable devastation and heartbreak. Sprinkled within these stories of loss\, moments of hope and compassion helped to sustain those of us mired in the throes of grief. All of these stories deserve a voice\, and sharing them helps to connect us as a community\, helps to heal our wounded souls\, brings awareness to our struggles\,and invites others to share their stories. 1-7-25 shares aspects of these stories through the beauty of dance. My hope is that this performance will be one of catharsis and healing that is still so needed for our community.
