SUMMARY:SEEKING DANCERS FOR DISCOFOOT IN WEST HOLLYWOOD
DESCRIPTION: The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11\, 2026 to July 19\, 2026. The City of West Hollywood will participate by hosting performances of Discofoot in their “Fan Zone” in West Hollywood Park (647 N. San Vicente Blvd.) from June 26-28\, 2026.  \nThe project is looking for professional contemporary dancers with strong technical backgrounds to participate in 4 performances of Discofoot – an ass kickin’\, DJ spinnin’\, maybe even twerkin’ free-styling battle\, where the rules of soccer are twisted and thrashed by dance.  \nChoreographed by Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley\, Discofoot is a match/performance played using the basic forms\, placement and rules of European football (Soccer). BUT\, with one defining factor. To move and/or travel on the field all are required to dance. Never at rest\, a continuous improvisation develops that follows the ball but also pays close attention to artistic merit “the battle”\, which is a key element to winning the game. The performance is ca. 45-minutes long and very physical\, as the field is active at all times.  \nThe work thrives with a diverse group of dancers! So\, we are looking for performers of all gender identities with strong personal performance qualities and experience in a variety of forms and styles. That said\, a familiarity with ballet technique and a basic knowledge of soccer is a plus.  \nMost importantly the ideal candidate is open to making instantaneous creative decisions\, generating material and comfortable and experienced with improvisation in the creative and performance process.  \nThis opportunity is open to dancers ages 18 and up. Residents of West Hollywood and Los Angeles County are encouraged to apply. Applicants can audition by submitting the following materials via THIS LINK:  \nVIDEO:  \n2-minutes Max. – open improvisation\, no music  \n2-minutes Max. – known material\, existing rep/choreography  \n1-minute Max. – “disco” dance like no one is watching\, let us hear your favorite music selection!  \nPlease include a professional CV and a photo with your submission. Only complete applications will be considered.  \nApplicants will be selected and notified from their CV and video material for an in-person audition May 22 – 24\, 2026 in West Hollywood\, CA.  \nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: April 17\, 2026  \nDancers must be available for rehearsals in West Hollywood\, CA or alternative location in Los Angeles County from June 1 – June 25\, performances to take place June 26 – 28\, 2026. Dancers will be compensated at $40/hour for a three-week rehearsal period\, and $1600/week for performances.  \nThis project is managed by The Blanket – please direct all inquiries to info@theblanket.org

SUMMARY:OUT THERE– Open Applications
DESCRIPTION:Application Due February 14\, 2025 | 11:59PM \nVelocity Dance Center is proud to announce a call for OUT THERE. OUT THERE is an annual\, two week dance festival that bolsters West Coast movement artists for their lineage of making work that innovates our field. This festival is for artists that have the audacity\, bravado\, and experimental spirit\, to vision their work to new scales. \nOUT THERE showcases two different weekends with two different artists each weekend– a new\, thirty minute work by a Seattle Artist which is made in residence at SFD+I and the Seattle premiere of an existing thirty minute work by an artist from the West Coast Region. This structure fills the need in our community for shared\, regional discourse and connection to Seattle artists and touring opportunities for artists in the greater West Coast Region. \nThis festival is part of Velocity’s Regionally Emerging Creative Incubator and is recommended for artists who have participated in festival style shows before and are looking to build regional audiences around their work and expand their skills on the following: \nArtistic mentorship: mentorship and community support to make artistically innovative projects.\nFinancial resources: fees to pay yourself\, your collaborators\, and your project expenses.\nReciprocal Relationship building: understanding your part in the larger ecology\, and how to work collaboratively to connect and sustain your career within your ecosystem of artistic collaborators\, local and national presenters\, funders\, and audiences.\nBusiness development: how to manage projects and undertake long-term collaborations and career planning.\nAs Velocity\, we love to throw around the word experimentalism. But what does it mean? We are interested in experimentation as a context we provide to audiences and art makers to hold new\, innovative ideas that push their form into new places. Experimentation can take place in any dance form and doesn’t have a singular look to us. If you have more questions about “experimentalism” feel free to reach out to Shane (shane@velocitydancecenter.org).
