SUMMARY:float. Pleasure
DESCRIPTION:a durational meditation with performance artist Marjani Forté-Saunders and sound designer Everett Asis Saunders. \n\n\n\n\nfloat. Pleasure \nA First Draft Sharing \nMarch 28\, 2026 \n3 – 6 PM \nCamera Obscura Art Lab: 1450 Ocean Ave.\, Santa Monica\, CA 90401. \nJoin us for the first public sharing of float. Pleasure\, a durational performance meditation presented by 7NMS | M + E. \nDesigned for audiences to come and go\, this live happening unfolds inside a spatially composed\, real-time sonic environment built from referential\, found\, and soul archives by sound designer Everett Saunders. Sound and body move in continuous dialogue. \nAt its center: one performer and one sound artist in sustained exchange. Viewers witness Marjani’s deliberate practice of joy and pleasure across shifting embodied states—an evolving physical inquiry into endurance\, vitality\, and presence. Here\, pleasure is not decorative; it is structural. \nThis work forms the generative foundation for the ensemble pieces float.: Phase I & II\, offering an intimate look at the research shaping the larger project. \nAudience members may enter and exit quietly at any time. No prior dance knowledge is needed—just a willingness to listen\, observe\, and settle into the experience. \nSpace is limited. \nThis performance iteration is supported in part by the Center for Provocative Thought / Effie House and the City of Santa Monica’s Art of Recovery Microgrant Program. \nThe Camera Obscura Art Lab is situated in Palisades Park and is a short walk from the Downtown Santa Monica Metro E-Line and the entrance of the Santa Monica Pier. \nParking \nThe closest parking structure is parking structure 6 located at 1432 2nd Street Santa Monica\, 90401. Parking fees can be found here. \nPublic Transportation \nVisit the Big Blue Bus and LA Metro websites for route and schedule information. The E line is a short walk from the Camera Obscura.

SUMMARY:Jeremy Nedd: from rock to rock… aka how magnolia was taken for granite
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by a rapper’s copyright lawsuit against a video game company\, US-born Switzerland-based choreographer Jeremy Nedd’s work explores “the Milly Rock\,” a viral dance move inspired by the rapper 2 Milly. \nFive performers examine the dance move\, searching for the hidden poetry and virtuosic freedom found in social and viral dance moves. From rock to rock… explores the “algorhythm” of marginalized movement languages and asks: can a dance move belong to anyone? And\, when yes\, who actually profits from it? \nSupport provided by the Shirley and Ralph Shapiro Director’s Discretionary Fund. \nConcept/Choreography/Performance Jeremy Nedd\nPerformance Brandy Butler\, Nasheeka Nedsreal\, Zen Jefferson\, Jeremy Guyton (original cast: Serge Desroches)\nTechnical management & lighting design Sebastian Sommer\nStage design Laura Knüsel\, Jeremy Nedd\nSound design Fabrizio Di Salvo\, Rej Deproc\, Xzavier Stone\nDramaturgy Anta Helena Recke\nChoreographic assistant Kihako Narisawa\nDiffusion ART HAPPENS\nProduction Caroline Froelich (Moin Moin Productions) \nIn coproduction with\nKaserne Basel\, De Singel Antwerp\, DDD – Festival Dias da Dança Porto\, Gessnerallee Zürich\, Les Halles de Schaerbeek \nWith the kind support of\nFachausschuss Tanz & Theater BS/BL\, Ernst Göhner Stiftung\, Jacqueline Spengler Stiftung

SUMMARY:In The Garden
DESCRIPTION:Donna Sternberg & Dancers presents In The Garden\, a site-specific performance at the Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica.  The beautiful garden landscape at the Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica serves as a stage for five dancers.  Gliding on pathways\, moving amongst the plants and seated in various locations\, the dancers perform in different areas while the audience moves along with them.  In The Garden uses the framework of plant biology to explore plant life.  Ripe with stunning imagery the work dives into topics such as beauty\, protection\, environmental degradation and decomposition.  In The Garden is a continuation of Donna Sternberg & Dancers science series\, that seeks to build bridges between science and dance by using scientific investigation to draw metaphors for human engagement.

The City of West Hollywood will participate by hosting performances of Discofoot in their “Fan Zone” in West Hollywood Park (647 N. San Vicente Blvd.) from June 26-28\, 2026.  \nThe project is looking for professional contemporary dancers with strong technical backgrounds to participate in 4 performances of Discofoot – an ass kickin’\, DJ spinnin’\, maybe even twerkin’ free-styling battle\, where the rules of soccer are twisted and thrashed by dance.  \nChoreographed by Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley\, Discofoot is a match/performance played using the basic forms\, placement and rules of European football (Soccer). BUT\, with one defining factor. To move and/or travel on the field all are required to dance. Never at rest\, a continuous improvisation develops that follows the ball but also pays close attention to artistic merit “the battle”\, which is a key element to winning the game. The performance is ca. 45-minutes long and very physical\, as the field is active at all times.  \nThe work thrives with a diverse group of dancers! So\, we are looking for performers of all gender identities with strong personal performance qualities and experience in a variety of forms and styles. That said\, a familiarity with ballet technique and a basic knowledge of soccer is a plus.  \nMost importantly the ideal candidate is open to making instantaneous creative decisions\, generating material and comfortable and experienced with improvisation in the creative and performance process.  \nThis opportunity is open to dancers ages 18 and up. Residents of West Hollywood and Los Angeles County are encouraged to apply. Applicants can audition by submitting the following materials via THIS LINK:  \nVIDEO:  \n2-minutes Max. – open improvisation\, no music  \n2-minutes Max. – known material\, existing rep/choreography  \n1-minute Max. – “disco” dance like no one is watching\, let us hear your favorite music selection!  \nPlease include a professional CV and a photo with your submission. Only complete applications will be considered.  \nApplicants will be selected and notified from their CV and video material for an in-person audition May 22 – 24\, 2026 in West Hollywood\, CA.  \nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: April 17\, 2026  \nDancers must be available for rehearsals in West Hollywood\, CA or alternative location in Los Angeles County from June 1 – June 25\, performances to take place June 26 – 28\, 2026. Dancers will be compensated at $40/hour for a three-week rehearsal period\, and $1600/week for performances.  \nThis project is managed by The Blanket – please direct all inquiries to info@theblanket.org

SUMMARY:¿Con Qué se Come?
DESCRIPTION:Queer Chicanx Dance Theater – Reimagining the quinceañera as ritual\, exclusion\, and belonging through abstraction and memory. \nWorld Arts & Cultures/Dance presents ¿Con Qué Se Come? as part of UCLA’s MFA Upstarts Series 2026. Choreographed and directed by Gilberto Martinez Martinez. 10 performers in this evening-length dance theater work investigating the cultural\, religious\, and social strutted embedded within the quinceañera tradition and take into consideration\, their impact on queer Chicanx subjectivity. The performance draws from its emotional and ceremonial logics: processions\, preparation\, spectacle\, communal celebration\, and expectation\, to construct an abstracted world of ritual and transformation. Movement is developed through gestural research\, familial ritual practices\, Catholic iconography\, collective improvisation\, and social dance vernaculars that echo the celebratory aesthetics of a quinceañera. ¿Con Qué Se Come? asks What does it mean to celebrate when the celebration was not meant for us?

SUMMARY:DANCING WITH BOB: RAUSCHENBERG\, BROWN & CUNNINGHAM ONSTAGE
DESCRIPTION:Witness another side of Robert Rauschenberg in Dancing with Bob: Rauschenberg\, Brown & Cunningham Onstage\, a tribute marking the centennial of this American iconoclast. Rauschenberg is known for his visual art and sculptures\, but he was also an avid cross-disciplinary collaborator—most frequently with choreographic legends Trisha Brown and Merce Cunningham. Together\, these three figures revolutionized dance\, sound\, and visual art. \nTrisha Brown Dance Company and Merce Cunningham Trust join forces\, presenting Brown’s Set and Reset\, hailed by the New York Times as “unmistakably Miss Brown at her most tantalizing.” Accompanied by Laurie Anderson’s bewitching electronic score\, the choreography ripples with hypnotic\, fluid energy. \nDive into Cunningham’s rarely seen comedic piece Travelogue\, created with John Cage and Rauschenberg in 1977. This vaudevillian pièce de résistance showcases dancers in playful\, absurd exchanges—deadpan yet brilliantly expressive. \nJoin us for this exhilarating retrospective on three artists whose synergy redefined creative expression.
